Did Coldplay Rip Cat Stevens?

Okay, this is getting ridiculous.

At the end of last year, Coldplay was accused of copying one of Joe Satriani's songs for "Viva La Vida." Now Cat Stevens is coming forward saying that he was the one to actually inspire Coldplay in writing the song written in 1973. Earlier this week, he told The Sun that "there’s been this argument about Coldplay stealing this melody from Joe Satrianibut, if you listen to it, it’s [his]! It’s the Foreigner Suite, it is!”

Give. me. a. break.

Before I rant anymore, you'll have to listen for yourself.

It's a very large stretch, but here's the thing: the chord progressions may be similar, but that is all! In the long history of music, there are going to be songs that share similar chord progressions. Artists everywhere need to realize and accept this!

Hmm, what a coincidence was it that Cat Stevens announced this so-called plagiarism the same day his new album was released? Yeah, right.

What do you think?
